‘Find the amount of white space around a poem so that the words emerge.’ beautiful and inspiring quote from artist Edmund de Waal. Besides fashion designers I would say I didn’t know much about British artists, and this time I am lucky to came across the works of Edmund de Waal and find them deeply profound.
Edmund makes porcelain works that function as repositories of human memory and experience. Drawing equally from Eastern and Western traditions, I love his aesthetics as well as the choice of materials. How they compliment and brings out the essence of each other is very pleasant for the eyes. His works are also very calming and has a tranquil quality in them. Feel like a rinse of the mind after seeing his creation. I also enjoy the naming of the artwork by the artist, feels the strong linkage and helps with the connection with the pieces. My favourite piece form the exhibition 'hold still 2020' made from 2 porcelain tiles with embossed handwritten text and gold leaf and 2 alabaster blocks, in gilded aluminium and plexiglass vitrine.
Thank you and grateful to have come across the work of Edmund de Waal.
